Overall it was a good cruise, not a great cruise, compared to the quality of the food and services on the mega ships. The problem is that every time you experience an exceptional cruise, that sets the standard for the next cruise, to be either met or exceeded.
As I was solo, there was sufficient room of one's "stuff". Long time to embark on the ship, and the debarkment took about an hour beyond the "scheduled" exit time due to passengers trying to get off the ship prior to their scheduled time.
The would start and start the debarkment process several times. Nice beach and island, several passengers who went on the island mentioned that there was some "garbage" on the beach area.
The only two islands visits were to Nassau and Labadee in that order. The ships staff and crew did nothing about this even though we saw crew members and officers walk past these inconsiderate smokers.
What is the point of having rules or making announcements if they are not going to be policed, especially while refueling.
Smoking areas should be well away from other passengers, not near the pool areas where kids will be exposed to passive smoking. Unfortunately right near the pool areas is where the smoking areas are on all the Royal Caribbean ships we have been on.
There should be designated spaces that have extraction fans that take the smoke away from all other passengers or even better than that no smoking at all, just like on Aircraft!
Have been on Explorer many times when she sailed out of Bayonne and PC - so not sure if things have changed - there was no smoking on formal nights - if that still exists so that could be something non smokers could consider.
I find tho the smell would still be there. I have information that I just got from a reliable source at rccl headquarters that they plan to try an experiment on one ship in the near future to have no smoking in the casino.
They will see how it goes and based on feedback and money spent determine if it will be a fleetwide change. That was before they eliminated balcony smoking.
And, yes, even then it stunk of stale smoke. Can't get that odor out in one day. So just to clarify, for cruises that start and finish in Australia is smoking banned in the casino?

A week at sea and port with fellow fans and actors from the shows. So while not a run of the mill cruise - the baseline experience was from what I have heard - a typical cruise set up minus the theme.
I'm going to break this up into parts to make the information easier and also to help organize my thoughts. Overall - I had a really fun time, however this review will be strictly about the Royal Caribbean service and not about the theme of the cruise.
Cabin - I shared a balcony room with my parents. While this wasn't a suite, I felt that it was spacious enough most of the time for all three adults to walk around each other comfortably.
My parents shared the bed, and the cabin crew lowered a bunk above which I slept on. The bunk was ok. Not as comfortable as the bed below, and because of where the bed and couch were positioned next to each other there was no room for the ladder - leaving it either in the way or not secured properly when I needed to climb up.
In the end I usually got out of bed by swinging over the side and dropping down onto the bed below. The fridge did not work, and kept our mini bar just barely above room temperature.
The bathroom shower was cramped, and had black mold in places. There was also no fan - so it got extremely hot following showers hence the mold.
Dining - Our first night, we went to the Sapphire Dining Room for our meal. We were told we had an assigned table with our reservation, but when we arrived we were asked where we would like to sit.
Fine enough. The food was After the first dinner we ended up taking all of our lunch and dinner at the Windjammer buffet. The variety wasn't amazing - but every day we were able to find something.
We did not eat at any of the extra restaurants or bars not included in our reservation. Drinks - we purchased the Soda Package and were given a reusable cup to fill from the Coke machines.
The variety was amazing - when the machines worked.
